Follow on Google News | Sacramento Automotive Rules of the RoadIt’s probably a good idea for Sacramento automotive drivers to be aware of the new laws. Unfortunately, our fine patrol men tend not to be lenient to those who respond with an ‘I didn’t know’. Here are some reminders, starting with TEXTING:
Teens younger than 18 are banned from using any device to talk or text while driving. That means you can’t even talk on a hands free, speaker phone or blue tooth. So if you’re caught while driving – you can be pulled over and fined. Here are some additional “Rules of the Road” for Sacramento auto http://automotive.sacramentoinsights.com/ Smoking - Did you know that Cal Trans reported that the most common debris on California roads are cigarette butts? While it is illegal to throw your cigarette out the window when smoking in the car, it is now illegal to smoke at all while driving (even if you are on the side of the road)…. if there is a minor in the car with you. Driving Under the Influence Zero Tolerance - Under this new law a convicted DUI offender is prohibited from operating a vehicle at any time if they have a blood alcohol level of .01 percent or higher while on probation for a DUI. The Sacramento auto driver will be required to submit to a portable breath test to determine their blood alcohol level. If the driver refuses to submit to the test, or is tested and found to have a level of .01 or higher, a citation will be issued and the driver’s license will be taken/ suspended. Then the vehicle will be impounded. Another change to the law is that DMV now has authority to administratively suspend the driver’s license for up to one year without a hearing. GPS - Global Positioning Systems (aka GPS) are now legal to put in your window; if you’re willing to get out a measuring tape. You are now able to mount a portable GPS in a 7-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield on the passenger side, or in a 5-inch square in the lower corner of the windshield on the driver’s side. The GPS must be mounted outside of an airbag deployment zone. Fines for violations vary by county.
