Happy Birthday Dr. King Children's Birthday Celebration in Honor of MLK Weekend

Jan. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- The King Center in partnership with the Collective Renaissance Guild (CRG), Arndrea and Martin King III Family Foundation and Infiniti, will hold the first annual "Happy Birthday Dr. King" celebration on Saturday, January 15, 2011, 9a.m. – 1p.m., at the King Center in Atlanta, GA. The celebration will be held for the children of Atlanta to commemorate the nonviolent activism work of Dr. King. The birthday party, will include a sing along, birthday cake and a symbolic peace march lead by the children of Atlanta. The celebration is free and open to the public.

"Happy Birthday Dr. King" is an opportunity for Atlanta's youngest citizens to join in the celebration of a man who changed the hearts and minds of America. Complete with performance by child singers and dancers, "Happy Birthday Dr. King" will be a joyous time to share and learn about the life Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived.

"One of our goals here at the King Center is to extend an open invitation to the entire community so that everyone feels welcome here" states King Center President and CEO, Martin Luther King III.

"Our 2 year old daughter, Yolanda, inspired the idea for the birthday party", states Arndrea King, Martin's wife. She continues, "She is a reminder that, while it is important to teach the lessons, it is also important to celebrate the life of her grandfather."

CRG Board Chair Christine White adds, "It is essential that we allow our children to feel a part of the King Holiday Celebration. By hosting a birthday party for children, we hope that the King Center will be enlivened by the hope and promise of a new generation who will continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."
