West Sound Academy Offers Summer ESL Program for International Students

Jan. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- West Sound Academy (WSA) is offering intensive, two-week English as a Second Language (ESL) 2011 Summer Sessions for international secondary students between the ages of fourteen and nineteen.  Two sessions of the program will be offered: Session 1 is scheduled for July 17 through July 30, 2011, and Session 2 for August 1 through August 14, 2011.  WSA’s program includes five hours per day, five days per week of concentrated classroom study where students learn to speak, read, write and understand English. Class learning is reinforced with practical usage during afternoon and weekend excursions to cultural and athletic events and area visitor attractions. Students further enrich their learning through workshops in the arts, including music, drama and fine art.  Experiential learning in the sciences happens on campus and at the local marine science center.

The weekday program takes place on West Sound Academy’s rural 20-acre campus on the Kitsap Peninsula, west of Seattle.  Afternoon sessions are held in either the school’s art, dance, or music studios or at Poulsbo’s Liberty Bay.  Students live in Murphy House, the school’s ten-room dormitory located in historic Poulsbo. Summer session residents at Murphy House will be within easy walking distance of village shops, the waterfront, and cultural activities.  Joe Kennedy, Head of School at West Sound Academy, is excited about the prospect of having international students on campus this July and August, saying, "WSA is pleased to initiate an English as a Second Language Summer Session.  It's a natural extension of WSA's International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and gives us an opportunity for global interaction the year round."
