Me and my Big Stopper - Peak District Photography Blog

I’m often asked what my favorite piece of kit is and hands down it has to be my Lee Filters Big Stopper, I’m on my second now the first I lost to the sea which was a very sad day indeed.

Feb. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- I was fortunate enough to have a day out with one of my heroes the renowned landscape photographer Joe Cornish and whilst taking shots at Sutton Bank Joe mentioned he had one already and would I like to try it, “you bet” and like a shot I ran off across the edge of Sutton Bank trying in vain to get a useable shot, I must admit I didn’t really get it and managed to rescue only one shot out of the whole batch, this is not uncommon when using The Big Stopper.

So what does it do?

As the name suggest It reduces the amount of light entering your lens by 10 stops allowing you to use a much slower shutter speed or wider lens aperture. The effect can be amazing as you drag the sky and flatten and smooth the water creating shots like you’ve never seen before, with large clouds it give a ghost like effect, very dramatic indeed.
