Follow on Google News | Proof Of Love, A Love Revival in Music City for the Benefit of ChildrenMusic City love, Grammy winners, artists, entertainment industry professionals and guests, from LA, Atlanta, DC, Philadelphia, arriving for Nashville's all-volunteer event for the Rudy Lovell Wooten Memorial Scholarship, W. O. Smith Music School.
Rudy Lovell Wooten, sax player and one of the musically outstanding Wooten brothers, died in July 2010. He was in his room, wearing his saxophone, when he passed. The talented Wooten family includes Victor and Roy Wooten, who play with banjo player Bela Fleck. Another of his brothers, Joseph Wooten, is keyboardist for the Steve Miller Band. While brother Regi Wooten, can be found teaching upwards of 100 students per week and is revered as a master of the guitar. Following Rudy's death, filmmaker Kevin Kertscher, who had included Rudy in a documentary he filmed in 1991 said, "However great his musical talents, they were supersceded by how big his heart was. Anybody who got to know him felt that. We all fell in love with him working with him." This Performance was shot at MTSU Tucker Theatre June 9, 2008. http://www.youtube.com/ When asked to describe the event's title, "Proof Of Love", Gigi de Lugo explained, "It came to me talking about the Flood of 2010 that devastated Nashville and this region. We often see, in films and so on, when someone is kidnapped a "proof of life" is displayed, usually using a newspaper. In our case, we had so many things happening on the planet at the time, including the early stages of the oil spill in the gulf. Seems to me what Nashville showed the world was "proof of love", and I think the world needed to witness that. Nashville is so much more than the music industry, it's all about the people who call Music City their home. It was after the flood, last July, when we all gathered at 3rd & Lindsley with the Wooten family to celebrate Rudy's life. I've never experienced so much love in one room or joy , honoring an individual's life, it was a healing gift to everyone that attended. The success of this event is just further evidence of how the love for Rudy continues on." The W.O. Smith Music School has been serving the Nashville community and low-income families since 1984. The school provides professional music instruction to qualifying children for only 50 cents a lesson. Instruction is provided by 200 volunteer faculty who donate from one to four hours of their time per week. Only in Nashville "Music City, USA" could such an enormous reservoir of generous volunteer musicians be found. On stage, and arriving from all parts of the U.S., for this "Proof Of Love, Love Revival in Music City for the Benefit of Children", includes: Regi Wooten, Joseph Wooten, Roy "Futureman" Wooten & some of the cast & members of The Black Mozart Ensemble + Special Guests, Jamsmack, Kin4Life, Shawn Gallaway, Greg Hall, and other guests.
