Top Four Students To Represent Texas In the 2011 Primary Math World Contest In Hong Kong

Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Texas Mathworks at Texas State University announces the four top students who have performed admirably in the 2011 Primary Math World Contest (PMWC) Qualifying Test.  These students will represent Texas at the 2011 PMWC in Hong Kong.  The PWMC is an international math competition for middle school students, drawing more than 40 teams from across the world each year.

The students are:

1. Sunny Tian, Austin, TX
2. Lilian Zhan, College Station, TX
3. Alexander Yang, Sugar Land, TX
4. Lazar Ilic, Austin, TX

Mathworks administers the qualifying test to help select the four team members, as well as identify promising applicants for the residential Junior Summer Math Camp (JSMC) held at Texas State University.  More than 540 students from across Texas took the qualifying test this year, with 33% scoring 1 or higher out of 15.  The team members will be participants in the 2011 residential JSMC, and then travel to Hong Kong for the PMWC, to be held July 12-17.  In eight years of attendance in the PMWC, the Texas team fielded by Mathworks has been awarded the Po Leung Kuk Cup six times (top non-Asian team), as well as tying for first place overall in 2008.
