FDA Approves Head Lice Treatment Treats in 10 Minutes

Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Head lice can be found on peoples’ heads, eyebrows and eyelashes and typically feed several times a day. The tiny bugs can affect all age groups and are spread by direct head-to-head contact or by sharing hats, combs, brushes, or towels.

Approval for Natroba was based on two randomized controlled trials involving a total of 552 patients. The spinosad group outperformed the control group, with 86% of those in the spinosad group found to be lice-free after 14 days, compared with 44% of those in the control group.

According to Dr. Marcy Street, a Lansing Michigan based dermatologist, she hopes this new treatment will prove effective. “We often see patients that will mistake lice for dandruff or hair spray droplets.  While lice do not transmit any disease, they are a nuisance. I explain to patients that no matter how clean they are, lice do not discriminate between a clean or dirty atmosphere. I’m hopeful that Natroba will be a quick solution to an irritation often experienced by head lice”.

Natroba is a topical drug the FDA says should be applied only to the scalp or hair, and exactly as prescribed by a doctor or other health care professional.
