By: Steve Newton In keeping with this mission, the Founders and President of the SSFOA conducts an open election process every year to solicit nominations and select the winner for the organization’ • Taken action(s) which directly influence the care and well-being of the wounded/ill veterans; • Influenced policy that has improved or provided services to our nation’s wounded and ill; • Strived to increase the benefits provided our wounded and ill; • Engaged in activities of such a profound nature, they have actually prevented casualties and injuries. Following the most recent selection process, an overwhelming majority of voters selected President Bush to receive this year’s honor for his unwavering support of the military community and persistent efforts to promote policies and actions that have improved the quality of life for the country’s wounded warriors “With the significant number of servicemen and women selflessly donating their time—and sometimes health—to the service of our great nation, it is nice to pause and recognize an individual who has tirelessly supported our unsung heroes,” stated Kathy Landess, national vice president for the SSFOA. “That is why I am pleased to announce President Bush as the 2011 recipient of the SSFOA Commendation Award,” Landess remarked. The award will be presented by an SSFOA representative during a closed ceremony at the former president’s office in February.
