Feb. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- Rundgren Radio recently announced a fan party in Boston the night before the Todd Rundgren "Todd" and "Healing" Albums Live concert being held at Berklee Performance Center.  The party will be held at the venue Church and will feature two Todd Rundgren & Utopia tribute bands and a special guest appearance by Utopia's Kasim Sulton.  Tickets are only $15 and are on sale now but limited to only 200.  More information is available at www.rundgrenradio.com/bostonparty.html.

The two tribute bands are Road To Utopia, and the Hermits of Mink Halloween.

Road to Utopia is a stellar nine-piece band, led by Gary Backstrom of Jiggle the Handle and the Gary Backstrom Band. Gary and company will present a spectacular set of music written and recorded by Todd Rundgren whose career spans more than 40 years.  Todd fan Tyra Penn attended a Road To Utopia show last year and said, "I was blown away by Gary and his band. Gary has a versatile voice and can sound like the younger Todd (The Last Ride) as well as the current Todd (Weakness). Gary is a talented guitarist and each member of the band is equally talented."

Hermits of Mink Hallowen features John Powhida and his all-star local Boston band.  Not only does the band perform some of Todd and Utopia's classics, John dresses up as 70's Todd with the multi-colored hair as seen on the cover of Todd Rundgren's "Todd" album.  John is also a multiple Boston Music Award nominee (best vocalist ) and has opened for Todd Rundgren three times most recently in Morristown, NJ on the 2009 "Arena" album tour.

Utopia's Kasim Sulton will be making a special guest appearance at the party and will be performing a few Utopia songs with both bands.  Kasim is a highly coveted sideman, singer/songwriter recognized and respected the world over for his work with other artists, including Todd Rundgren and Utopia, Meat Loaf, Joan Jett, Hall and Oates, Patti Smith, Patty Smyth, Mick Jagger, and Celine Dion to name just a few. His level of involvement has ranged from playing bass, keyboards, and/or guitar, to adding vocal harmonies, singing lead, and contributing as a songwriter, to producing entire albums, as he did with the Meat Loaf VH-1 Storytellers CD, released in 1999. There isn’t much he hasn’t done in his 25 years in the music industry.

The night after the fan party, pop/rock music icon Todd Rundgren will perform two complete albums, "Todd" and "Healing", in the same live concert in Boston, Massachusetts at the Berklee Performance Center (March 27).  The night before the fan party, Todd will be performing the albums concert at nearby Hartford, CT at the Belding Theater.

The first-ever TODD & HEALING ALBUMS LIVE concerts in September 2010 were a huge success and the reviews included many "best ever" comments from fans that have been going to Todd concerts for decades. A large LED display and lasers were on display throughout the shows with Todd and the band dressed in extravagant costumes. Todd brought out his SG Gibson "The Fool" replica guitar and even performed a few songs while playing the piano. He was accompanied by an all-star band consisting of Jesse Gress, Greg Hawkes (The Cars), Prairie Prince (The Tubes), Bobby Strickland, and Kasim Sulton (Utopia). Led by Choir Master Dirk Hillyer, local choirs from each area where the concerts were held joined Todd and the band during parts of the HEALING set and added a brand new element to the music for fans that had only heard it by listening to the album. The shows closed with the song, "Sons Of 1984" which included fan participation even after Todd and the band left the stage.

According to Rundgren, "These shows are proposed and promoted by the fans. I'm lucky to have a very loyal audience.” The musician’s followers enthuse about the energy he brings to the stage, and they embrace the charged vibe that is typical of a Rundgren concert.

Todd Rundgren is a songwriter, video pioneer, producer, recording artist, computer software developer, conceptualist, and interactive artist whose music features an amazing variety of sounds and styles. The lively tracks on Todd exemplify his interest in music synthesizers, while the gentler Healing displays the more traditional and spiritual side of his music.
