Susan Taylor Helps Y2K Academy Recruit Mentors in Hampton Roads

(Suffolk, Virginia) – During a special appearance for a Friday “Evening With Susan Taylor” event celebrating Black History at Norfolk’s Crispus Attucks Theater, Essence Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, Susan L. Taylor charged the attendees to support Y2K Academy’s upcoming mentor recruitment event in  Suffolk.

Hampton Roads CARES Mentoring Movement, Inc. in partnership with Y2K Academy is sponsoring a Hampton Roads-wide call for new mentors, Saturday, February 26, 2011, 10:30 am at The Master’s House Church, 2500 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. Last night Mrs. Taylor recognized Dr. Princella Johnson, Y2K Academy’s founder and Pastor of The Master’s House church as the Hampton Roads CARES Mentoring Movement, Inc. founder for her National CARES Mentoring Movement, Inc.

Taylor encouraged the crowd to support Johnson’s efforts to recruit male and female mentors aged 21 and above for matches with youth and Dads wishing to improve their parenting skills. Taylor travels all around the country to support her local CARES Circles as they work to recruit mentors to help save a generation. There are over 50 CARES Circles around the country, and Dr. Johnson heads up Virginia’s Hampton Roads CARES Circle. The agency matches mentors with mentoring organizations in the local community.

“Mrs. Taylor’s words of inspiration to the audience caused an overwhelming response from last night’s attendees,” said Dr. Johnson. “She also gave a video-taped interview asking caring men and women of Hampton Roads to get involved with our efforts to save our children. We will be uploading that segment on the Y2K Academy Web site as soon as it is edited and produced. Segments from that interview will also be aired on our church’s television broadcast which airs on WTVZ Ch. 33. We need every loving man and woman available to help us get the job done,” Johnson urged.

Aspiring mentors must register in advance to know exactly what documents to bring to the one-stop orientation which will include fingerprinting. One-year commitment mentoring match opportunities exist for those desiring to mentor in an online or traditional setting. Applicants arriving without proper documentation will not be considered. Potential mentors must submit to FBI fingerprint criminal history check, local police records check, DMV, Employment and SSN-based address verification as well as a personal interview and training.
