Taylor charged the attendees to support Y2K Academy’s upcoming mentor recruitment event in Suffolk. Hampton Roads CARES Mentoring Movement, Inc. in partnership with Y2K Academy is sponsoring a Hampton Roads-wide call for new mentors, Saturday, February 26, 2011, 10:30 am at The Master’s House Church, 2500 E. Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434. Mrs. Taylor asked attendees to support Dr. Princella Johnson, Y2K Academy’s founder and Pastor of The Master’s House church as the Hampton Roads CARES Mentoring Movement, Inc. founder for her National CARES Mentoring Movement, Inc. as she works to mentor youth and fathers in Hampton Roads. Dr. Johnson is launching a new online mentoring program in March which will not only serve to mentor youth, but also help train fathers through the Y2K Dadz Responsible Fatherhood Initiative. The Academy will take advantage of technological advancements to overcome transportation barriers which prevent many youth and parents from receiving much needed family enrichment education. The new mentor's orientation in Suffolk, Virginia is the first of a series the academy will be offering in 2011. Aspiring mentors must register in advance to know exactly what documents to bring to the one-stop orientation which will include fingerprinting. One-year commitment mentoring match opportunities exist for those desiring to mentor in an online or traditional setting. Applicants arriving without proper documentation will not be considered. Potential mentors must submit to FBI fingerprint criminal history check, local police records check, DMV, Employment and SSN-based address verification as well as a personal interview and training. Screening cost is $23.
