Follow on Google News | EU Broadband Tariffs Q4 2010More operators are offering exclusively bundled services and not "access only" anymore.
By: Quantum-Web Quantum Web’s most significant findings for EU members in Q4 2010 include: • More operators are offering exclusively bundled services and not access only anymore. • Monthly tariffs for broadband access across EU countries remained steady during the last quarter of 2010 as operators tried to assuage the impact of VAT increases on tariffs by lowering non-recurring costs or through short-term promotions. • Tariffs for the 2Mb-8Mb and 8Mb-16Mb bands became nearly identical whereas the 24Mb-100Mb band now is under the €50 threshold. • Denmark has the highest broadband tariffs in Europe but also the highest broadband penetration among the EU 27. Poland offers some of the cheapest broadband tariffs across all speed bands. • O2 (Telefonica) Residential single-play broadband offers followed a recurring pattern in Q4 2010: the most popular speed bands of 2Mb-8Mb and 8Mb-16Mb are relatively cheap and operators centre most of their promotional activity on these two speed bands. ‘Ireland’s average tariffs for the 2Mb-8Mb speed band were the highest among EU member states in Q4 2010. The main reason was the high price for bandwidth. Most broadband packages in Ireland are capped and average around EUR33.8 per month; uncapped offers for the 2Mb-8Mb band typically cost more than double the EU average of EUR34.1. # # # Quantum-Web is a market research & consulting firm specialised in fixed and wireless broadband markets.
