Feb. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- One of the main holiday regions in the UK which offers many waterside holiday properties is the  Norfolk & Suffolk Broads in East Anglia. This area which can be regarded as a ‘Best Kept Secret’ offers superb waterside holidays ideal for boating, fishing or just relaxing by the river watching the world float by.

The Norfolk Broads is the largest wetland in Britain and is now been awarded national park status. There are six main rivers overall connecting forty different individual broads, creating over 200 km of waterways in all. The majority of these are navigable by boat, canoe or in some cases the sun powered electric boats, all are ideal to explore.

Each Broad was created by medieval peat digging which was then flooded to become a shallow lake after the peat was dug out for fuel. Water, marshes, reeds, tangled woodlands and pretty little villages make up the Broadlands landscape – the perfect haven for birds and wildlife and a wonderful place to go fishing. Thousands of keen anglers visit the Broads every year for some of the best fishing in the UK. Bream, eel, perch, pike, rudd and tench can be found. The coarse fishing season runs from 16 June to 14 March and all that you need to fish is a current Environment Agency licence.

The Broads meets the sea at Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, two popular & bustling seaside towns with good quality sandy beaches. There are many places to visit including nature reserves, churches, old restored windmills, craft centres, and numerous pretty little riverside villages with pubs, shops and restaurants.

At the western end of the river Yare is the historic city of Norwich. With its 900 year old Cathedral, Norman castle, museums, theatres, market place and popular shopping centre. The capital of the Broads is the village of Wroxham, a bustling haven of shops, restaurants, pubs. There are also many boat operators where day boats, traditional broads sailing boats and modern cruisers can be hired for weekend breaks, week holidays or just hiring out to explore the Broads for a day or so. Sailing regattas and other such boating events are part of life on the Broads. In addition there you will also find lots of local events ashore, such as carnivals, and fetes to add to the fun for all the family.

A cottage holiday on the Norfolk Broads offers wonderful opportunities for some doorstep fishing, exploring the waterways by boat, canoe or yacht and see some amazing wildlife on the doorstep. The popular Norfolk beaches are only a few miles away offering excellent seafood, famous fresh crab from Cromer and wild sea lion colonies. Something for everyone and a secret that’s best enjoyed and most definitely shared!
