Goa Center for Alternative Photography (Goa-CAP) launches Project Oyamel Fir

Goa Center for Alternative Photography (Goa-CAP) launches Project Oyamel Fir** to celebrate the Worldwide Pinhole Day 2011

March 2, 2011 - PRLog -- After the tremendous success of the first edition of Goa International Pinhole contest 2010- commemorating the worldwide Pinhole day in India, there has been a lot of awareness and interest in pinhole photography. Goa-CAP has received numerous queries, from the photographers around the globe, regarding ensuing pinhole photography ahead as a creative art form. With an intention to keep this spirit alive, we plan to take this celebration to the next level.

Project Oyamel Fir is not a contest - It is an experimental initiative of Goa-CAP, inviting pinhole Photographers, enthusiasts from across the world to send one self-portrait taken with a pinhole camera to create a large dreamy, and beautiful body of work which will later be exhibited under -**Me, Monarch** as a title.

“…photography seems to capture glimpses of the world in a deceptively
objective way. Yet, the photographic image is as much a subjective visual
fragment as a painting. It both deliberately reveals and conceals what it
wants to. Turning the lens inward onto the photographer herself or himself
is an extreme act of objective subjectivity. The pinhole camera is even more
serendipitous as one does not know what will be visible finally. Here we
have the pinhole photographer imagining and imaging his or her own being.
Together we enter into a collaborative gazing, photographer, camera and us
exploring and constructing the self...”
The Project will culminate with an exhibition of all the images and a book launch on the Worldwide Pinhole day, April 24, 2011 in India. Goa-CAP shall celebrate the entire last week of April as the Pinhole Week conducting workshops, lectures and many more fun activities.

**On the UNITED NATIONS INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF FOREST 2011 Project Oyamel fir is dedicated to Oyamel Fir trees which are the winter shelter for several hundred million Monarch Butterflies migrating from north and south. Relentless logging has compromised the forest canopy that once protected monarchs. A growing human population around these butterfly havens and increased demand for wood gravely threaten the survival of the over-wintering butterflies, as well as the forest environment in general.
