Follow on Google News | New RDT saves time and money for LAR Traffic Services.LAR Traffic Services were so delighted with the success of their first Rapid Deployment Trailer (RDT) unit, they have just taken delivery of a second RDT unit from Recovery World.
By: Ultimedia PR A large van equipped with an RDT is half the cost and cheaper to run than a crew cab flat bed or spec lift yet can deal with most vehicle recovery situations. With the ever increasing cost of diesel, road tax and insurance, the lower running costs addresses one of the major concerns which face all recovery operators. LAR’s Jason Longmore commented, “I was never a fan of RDTs, but since we bought the first one a few months ago, I have totally changed my opinion. We’re based in Enfield, so we get called to many recoveries in urban London, and driving through traffic is so much easier and quicker in a Transit van than even the smallest flatbed vehicle. It only takes a few minutes to deploy the RDT and load the casualty vehicle, and it causes less disruption to traffic than winching onto a transporter.” Not only is an RDT vehicle cheaper to buy and operate than a crew cab beavertail, it is also more versatile. In transit, the RDT collapses down and is stored in the rear of the van, while the rest of the interior is fitted out as a well equipped mobile workshop. A single operator can get to the breakdown quickly, and on arrival at the scene can then either carry out repairs at the road side, or deploy the RDT and recover the casualty vehicle. Jason added, “It only takes a few minutes to deploy the RDT and it saves on capital outlay, running costs and operator driving time. We’re convinced that this is the way forward, which is why we have a third RDT being built as we speak.” More about Recovery World The Recovery World website has become a community focus for all those involved in the vehicle recovery industry, not just for vehicle sales, but a central information point.
