March 9, 2011 - PRLog -- MEDFORD, Ore.--Heart disease risks increase as we grow older, but many of those risks can be greatly reduced by living smart and making changes as we age. Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford will present "Heart Disease and Seniors," a free lunch and learn about heart disease and aging on March 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Smullin Health Education Center on the Rogue Valley Medical Center Campus.

Join local cardiologist Brian Gross MD, FACC, Southern Oregon Cardiology, LLC, for a this enlighening presentation. Dr. Gross is a leader in heart care in the Rogue Valley, and will provide many insights into your heart and your health as you age.

For example, people tend to reduce their general activity but not their food consumption, especially foods rich in fats and cholesterol. This can lead to heart disease. In addition, seniors tend to take more medications for pain relief, but  research has shown that regular use of these pain medications, over time, may lead to heart disease. Learn much more and join Dr. Gross for this fascinating discussion and his answers to your questions.

The event is free and the lunch is heart-healthy, but registration is required and space is limited. Please call 888-688-4920 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              888-688-4920      end_of_the_skype_highlighting or register online at http://www.asante.org/classes-events.
