By: UKSA UKSA has outlined an investment strategy and agenda for growth, using its reputation for the delivery of premium training and education interventions to help benefit young people regardless of their background or circumstances. The focus is on delivering a range of solutions to help people retrain, get back into work and access alternative forms of higher education. Key areas UKSA is addressing include: • Investment in internships, cadetships and apprenticeship programmes as an alternative to going to University • Investment in the charity’s youth development team, with a keen focus on personal mentoring and helping people develop the right attitude towards work and jobs • Building on its substantial links within the global marine industry to ensure UKSA candidates get access to jobs around the world • New educational partnerships to widen schools’ participation and provision, including assisted funding schemes Jon Ely, UKSA Chief Executive said: “Our ambition is to reach more young people who, with our help and encouragement, can change their lives. It is our intention to break down barriers to participation and work closely with our current partners and find new affiliates who can help us deliver on our promises.” UKSA has published its milestones and goals in its 2011 Impact Report. http://www.uksa.org/ Later this month, UKSA will announce the winners of its prestigious Celebrating Achievement Awards, a programme designed to celebrate the achievements of young people whose lives have been transformed through maritime education and outreach. The awards will be presented by UKSA Patron HRH The Princess Royal at a special ceremony in London on March 24.
