By: APM Public Relations-Angela P. Moore An Atlanta-based, self-taught contemporary jazz saxophonist, Lucas first came to prominence in 2004 with his debut CD “Remembrance” In 2007, he went on to produce his sophomore CD, “Something to Ride 2”, on Mo Better Recordings. “I wanted a CD that people could groove to and have fun listening to and “Something to Ride 2” fits the bill. It’s somewhat of a departure from what I did on my first CD. With this CD, I further developed my own distinctive sound as a solo artist. My style from a horn perspective is different from that of many traditional smooth jazz artists in terms of melodic phrasing. I like taking off on an uncharted path in music and “Something to Ride 2” is a representation of the journey that I take each time I pick up the sax,” says Lucas. His recently released CD, “Standing Room Only”, is climbing the charts and receiving international radio promotion. His smooth sound has received airplay from over 115 radio stations and he is being sought to serenade audiences across the country. “My new CD is special because it offers a wide array of styles coming from various producers pushing the envelope in contemporary jazz.. The end result forces me to continue growing as an artist and deliver fresh music for my fans,” says Lucas. Lucas has opened for such artists as: Roy Ayers, Michael Franks, The Gap Band, Lalah Hathaway, Hugh Masakela and 5-time Grammy nominee Nneena Freelon. He has performed on several top jazz festivals and concert bills across the country with some of jazz’s greatest artists such as: Kirk Whalum, Gerald Veasley, Boney James, Phil Perry, Chris Botti, Warren Hill, Nancy Wilson, Abbe Lincoln, Bobbi Humphrey, Ramsey Lewis, Ronny Jordan, Greg Karukas, Peter White, Gerald Albright, and the list goes on. Stay tuned -- Lucas is coming to a city near you. His upcoming performances include the famous Blue Note Jazz Club in New York on April 2, 2011 and several jazz festivals throughout the year.
