Broadband Satellite Group Avanti Successfully Tests New Satellite

March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Broadband satellite operator Avanti Communications said Tuesday that its engineers had successfully completed in orbit testing of the HYLAS 1 satellite.

Avanti said the tests confirmed that the new satellite is working to specification, and, in some areas, providing higher performance than originally specified. The telecommunications firm said this would offer improved service quality, flexibility and usable capacity.

The company will now commence provision of services and said the first live customer service in the UK will be installed next week.

Avanti said it has over 60 Virtual Network Operator customers in 16 countries in Europe who have purchased capacity on the new satellite, and that the migration of customers would pick up in the coming month.

"With Europe's first fully operational broadband satellite, Avanti will now provide a range of satellite data communications services to consumers, enterprise and governmental organisations across the UK and Europe," Avanti Communications' chief executive David Williams said.

Avanti's CEO added that he was "highly confident" of achieving quick commercial success for the new satellite.

The company also announced that it had signed a seven year contract with a new Virtual Network Operator customer for the sale of 80 Mb of capacity which is worth EUR7.1 million over the seven year term.
