Preston Mazda and Preston Nissan Gain Facebook Page Likes as a Part of Campaign to Help Japan Relief

March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Japan recently witnessed a devastating natural disaster that have officials estimating that over 10,000 people may have died during the 9.0 magnitude Earthquake followed by a huge Tsunami that hit the Northern Coast of Japan. In efforts to help provide relief Preston Automotive Group’s Preston Mazda and Preston Nissan have started a Facebook campaign to help raise money to donate to the GlobalGiving Foundation.  So far several International rescue teams have been arriving to Japan to join an all-out relief effort, with the Russian team by far the largest.

This recent devastation is being called one of the worst Japan has seen since of this magnitude since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WWII. A short time after the tsunami hit, which erased some towns and villages like Shizugawa off the map, several nuclear reactors began to malfunction and overheat. As of Wednesday (03/16/11), it has appeared that the problems have begun to spin out of control as radiation levels began to surge and helicopters failed to dump seawater on the overheating reactors. Japanese residents in area of the reactors have been urged to stay sealed in doors until the threat is eliminated.

Over 434,000 people have been made homeless due to the Earthquake and Tsunami. “Devastation of this range is an unspeakable horror,” says Mary Jane Haney, GM of Preston Mazda and Preston Nissan in Maryland, “All of our thoughts and prayers are with the families that were affected by the disaster.” Preston Mazda and Preston Nissan are donating an amount of money for each new “like” their Facebook pages gain since last Friday (3/11/11). These pages that normally post recent Mazda and Nissan news, specials, and other happenings are now raising there “likes” and also providing the most recent developments on the latest new from Japan. Major disasters always require a huge amount of international support to provide relief and long term recovery efforts. In the case of Japan, these initial funds will help survivors and victims get necessary services.
