Food Fight is Inspiring Crusade to End Hunger

April 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Over 4,000 local high school students joined forces last week to end world hunger.  In the past three years since its inception, over 10,000 high school students have joined Food Fight’s ranks to raise funds to purchase and ship meals across the globe in a mission to end hunger.

The statistics are staggering.  This year, Food Fight volunteers packed and shipped 249,292 meals, putting the three year total at 622,353 meals.  They raised $40,000 this year with more still coming in and have raised about $85,000 in total.

For the first time ever, one of the five high schools that hosted the packing and shipping effort even donated money to the cause.  Key Club and Student Council at Naperville North High School gave Food Fight $1,500 each “because their money is supposed to go toward the student body and they believed that Food Fight, with over 1,500 student volunteers, was a great representation of the student body and what they are capable of,” explains Sarah Leddon, one of Food Fight’s co-leaders and a student at Neuqua Valley High School.

“This was a great year for Food Fight! We added another school and expanded our presence in schools who have previously hosted Food Fight,” Leddon continues.  “More students have also joined our ranks because they have been inspired by our accomplishments and what we stand for.  I'm so proud to have my name attached to this organization, and even though it will be hard to pass on Food Fight to the next generation of leaders before I leave for college, I'm very excited to see it grow and impact more lives.”
