April 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Oakton, VA —Mosaic Harmony, an interfaith, multicultural community choir, is pleased to announce "Partners In Harmony," the theme for their spring 2011 concerts in celebration of 18 years of service to the Greater Washington, D.C. area will feature five-time Wammie® Award winning artist Carey Creed and Washington gospel legend, Ralph Herndon.   The concerts are scheduled to take place Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 7 p.m. at Dumbarton United Methodist Church, 3133 Dumbarton Street NW, Washington DC; Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m. at UUCF, 2709 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, VA and on Sunday, June 12 at 7 p.m. at Bishop Ireton High School, 201 Cambridge Road, Alexandria, VA 22314.   Ms. Creed who was a member with Mosaic Harmony for four years returns as a guest artist.  With honeyed mezzo-alto vocals, Creed's moving solo work on the song, "Be Still" was recorded on Mosaic Harmony's second CD effort, "You Oughta Been There".  "I am so happy to be performing with the choir again, it’s like going home," noted Creed whose latest CD release, Peace of Wild Things is another excellent showcase of her body of work.   Ralph Herndon, who is the lead vocalist and pianist for his group Tradition, performed with Mosaic Harmony at the 2011 DC Intersections final night at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.  "I was completely surprised with this group, they are having fun and they love the music, it’s an honor to be asked to share the stage with them once again," noted Herndon who is a member of the Washington DC Gospel Legacy award winning group BL&S, ("Blessed, Loved and Saved").  Herndon has also performed with some of the brightest and biggest names in gospel; he put together Tradition with some of his favorite gospel singers, which includes Mosaic Harmony director David K. North.  Said North of Herndon, "he is the kind of singer and pianist who plays with every bit of his heart and soul, singing with him is so much fun that we could go on and on and on wherever we sing!"

The annual concert will once again feature a compilation of songs ranging from traditional and contemporary African-American gospel to music written by their dynamic and talented director and as the highlight of the choral season, is their largest fundraising effort.  Mosaic Harmony’s concerts are high-energy, inspiring performances that leave their audiences feeling uplifted and encouraged.  Bringing together people of diverse cultures, ages, backgrounds, and more than 17 faith traditions to celebrate humanity is Mosaic Harmony’s vision to be a source of inspiration on a local, national, and global level.  The theme of the 2011 season has been about bridging harmony and partnerships, clearly aligning the mission and vision of Mosaic Harmony.  The choir has performed in a variety of locations over the years including four consecutive performances for the Martin Luther King celebration program at the Washington Hospital Center, a holiday performance in 1999 on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, four consecutive performances at the Pentagon, festival performance at Mary Washington College, a record thirteen consecutive performances at Mt. Zion Methodist church in Hamilton, Virginia, and in 2011 a highlight performance at DC Intersections.  The choir assisted groups in raising tens of thousands of dollars for charities including Coats for Kids, Capital Hospice, Buganda University, the Brain Tumor Foundation, the Lakota Nation and Habitat for Humanity, as well as many other notable charitable causes.  The choir’s performances have provided encouragement and hope to families in hospice care, residents of mental health facilities, residents living in retirement communities, and to the general public for 18 years.  In an effort to reach a wider audience in the area, this year the choir opted to host three different venues for their annual fundraiser.    North further notes, "we are thrilled to have the opportunity to host our fundraiser at the historical Dumbarton church, our "home" location of UUCF and a return to Bishop Ireton High School for this year's concert, and to have as our performing guests Carey Creed and Ralph Herndon, we couldn't be more blessed."

Mosaic Harmony members prepare the entire season for their spring concert and often members who took sabbaticals for the season return to volunteer as spring concert staff.  Sponsorship opportunities and ticket sales for the concerts will be available online and from choir members beginning April 1, 2011.  For ticket and performance information on the concerts, visit the website at www.mosaicharmony.org
