Follow on Google News | Victoria Secular Humanist Association: Don't Believe in God?The Philosophers Cafe at philosophercafevictoria.com invites those who deny or doubt belief in God as well as those who do believe in God, to engage in respectful conversation.
By: Philosophers Cafe Victoria An alternative to the secular humanists promoting atheism, is the local Philosophers Cafe Victoria where all views are enthusiastically welcomed and the moderator maintains respectful dialogue. The belief of the Philosophers Cafe is that everyone is a philosopher because everyone holds fundamental assumptions about life, so one need not be versed in classic or academic philosophy. Those attending the Philosophers Cafe, who may simply observe the discussion if they wish, hold views akin to atheism, skepticism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism, New Age, and many other individual philosophies. The topics discussed range from sexuality to democracy, and the moderator who attempts to be neutral, periodically challenges the assumptions that underlie the views being expressed. Participants are encouraged to sincerely reflect others views so that a spirit of understanding prevails. If a member expresses a view that is disrespectful or judgmental of others, the moderator gently reminds him or her of the discussion guidelines. The group meets every 2nd and 4th Wednesday at the James Joyce Bistro, 1175 Douglas Street (at View Street) in Victoria, from 7-8:30 pm. All are welcome to attend.
