Vic Sotto, Bea Alonzo team up in the summer laugh trip, “Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak!”

April 28, 2011 - PRLog -- It’s been 14 years since Vic Sotto - recently hailed RP Box Office King of 2010 at the Guillermo Mendoza’s 42nd Box Office Entertainment Awards (and previous 4-time winner) - did a movie for ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema.  Now, his M-Zet Productions not only joined hands with Star Cinema; Vic even promoted just over a couple of weeks ago his new movie, Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak, on The Buzz, ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel’s top entertainment talk show.

The result is heartwarming: Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak opened in Manila last Black Saturday with a first-day take of over P15 million.  It is now forecasted to land among the top movie earners in the Philippines for 2011.  Moviegoers in the U.S. have a chance to catch it in San Francisco, Los Angeles-Cerritos and San Diego, California beginning May 6, through ABS-CBN International’s Starry Starry Store.

Paired in a winning casting coup with two-time RP Box Office Queen Bea Alonzo, the film promises stellar performances not only from Vic and Bea, but also from superstar comedienne Pokwang and child wonders Zaijan Jaranilla (the iconic Santino of the blockbuster TFC teleserye May Bukas Pa) and Xyriel Manabat (of TFC’s Momay fame and 2010 Best Child Actor at the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival for Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To!). Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak also stars Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola with the special participation of surprise guest stars.  It is directed by comedy genius Tony Y. Reyes.

In the movie, Vic plays Angelo who dreams of creating a cure for his father’s illness... and making money on the side. With some knowledge on medicinal herbs, he makes a living as a so-called “faith healer”, together with his protégés, Phil and James (Jose and Wally). Hence, the title “Dr. Kwak” (as in quack doctor).  Many believe him except for Dr. Cielo Delos Santos (Bea) who thinks he is a fake healer and swears to do everything to expose him.

Things get complicated when Angelito (Zaijan), a naughty angel sent to earth on a mission in order to learn his lesson, comes to help Angelo become a better man. Then there is Pining (Pokwang), the deceitful landlady of Angelo and his sidekicks, who is trying her best to seduce Angelo.  Meanwhile, weird as it may seem, Cielo begins to fall for Angelo when she sees first-hand how the latter is able to bring a boy hit by a car back to life, not knowing that the boy is exiled angel with an agenda - Angelito.  To complicate things more, Angelito takes a liking to Macy (Xyriel), Cielo’s little sister.

Can this charade go on without hurting anyone?  As Angelo, Cielo and Angelito try to achieve their own goals, they realize that they need each more than they are willing to admit.

“After bringing romantic comedy to our moviegoers here with the blockbuster, Catch Me… I’m In Love, in April, we thought a family comedy would be a good follow-up offering.  Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak has a tested team behind entertainment for the whole family and the fact that it is doing very well in the homeland makes us confident that it will also bring joy to our kapamilya here in the U.S. as well,” said Kerwin Du, ABS-CBN International’s head of theatricals.
