MEDIA ADVISORY: Free Irish Dance Fest Returns to Riverside Park Pier on Sunday

April 29, 2011 - PRLog -- What: Tenth Annual Irish Arts Center NYC Irish Dance Festival returns to its dramatic Hudson River venue for a free, day-long, family-friendly, interactive celebration of Irish dance, music, language and fun. Live dance performances, dance lessons, live Irish music, Irish crafts, kid’s photo contest and other family-friendly attractions, capped by a rousing musical finale and Irish céilí dance.

When: Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 1PM to 8PM., rain or shine (event shifts to nearby covered basketball courts in case or rain).

Who: Keltic Dreams, the multicultural Irish dance group from PS 59 in the Bronx; Riverdancers Jason Oremus, Garrett Coleman and Chris Naish of Hammerstep-the new dance show that fuses Irish step with tap and hip-hop; Darrah Carr Dance; Donny Golden Dancers; Niall O'Leary Irish Dance Troupe and School of Irish Dance; Peter Smith School of Irish Dance.

Where: Pier 1, Riverside Park South at W 70th Street (enter Riverside Park at W 72nd St.). Closest subway: 1, 2, & 3 trains to W 72nd Street and Broadway station.  (In case of rain event shifts to covered basketball courts adjacent to Pier 1.)

Story elements: Dramatic Hudson River pier location, a “Best Kept Secret of NYC”; kids dancing in colorful costumes; the worldwide Irish Dance phenomena (Riverdance alumni will be performing), multicultural influences provided by the Bronx schoolchildren of Keltic Dreams and from next generation dancers of Hammerstep; a chance to take Irish Dance lessons from NYC’s best teachers, Irish language demonstrations, live Celtic music; free family fun on the river on a (hopefully) glorious spring day (forecast calls for a sunny day, high temp 72°).
