Christian Horan’s Provocative Photography Graces the Interiors of Las Vegas' New Club, Gallery

Sought out for his ability to capture sophisticated and sensual imagery, Christian Horan’s photographs provide a seductive backdrop to Gallery, Las Vegas' New, Chic Nightclub
May 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Las Vegas, NV—Gallery, the Vegas strip’s latest and hottest nightclub, proudly opened its doors to top Sin City celebrities and glitterati on April 15, 2011. The opening’s fanfare had much to do with the club’s design and entertainment concepts offering an experience unlike any other in Vegas—a statement not to be made lightly in a city known for its decadence and nightlife.

Gallery Nightclub hired AK DesignNETWORK to create a provocative aesthetic and voyeuristic experience for its guests. Founded and directed by Amy Kim, AK DesignNETWORK creates some of the most pioneering offerings in today’s design world, including working with Philippe Starck on the innovative SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Kim explains her design style as “sensory branding,” and therefore had a clear vision in mind for each of the three rooms in the 17,500 sq. ft. space. Kim chose photographer Christian Horan specifically for his ability to translate her ideas for the project into reality by using his creative “eye” to capture sensuality on film while maintaining a sense of elegance.

Horan’s monochrome images of models in seductive couture and provocative poses were printed larger than life on glass, back-lit and installed throughout Gallery—some gracing the club’s walls, others embedded in the ceiling, and yet another stretching the length of the main bar’s surface. One of Kim’s most original uses of the glass-mounted photographs is the lenticular series in a crimson-lit passage of the club, where guests experience a subtle movement of the femme-fatale subject within the image as they pass by.

“I was given enormous creative freedom to dream up my own world for this project,” explains Horan. “From the start, Kim had a clear idea for the final product, yet she really wanted the photo shoot to be a collaboration, utilizing each artists’ expertise to elevate the photographs from static images to dramatic visual narratives. That creative freedom, combined with the vibrant, fun energy of the models and crew really comes through in the final images.

Kim’s detailed designs of fourteenth-century French palace backdrops and chandeliers (used in both the shoot and the nightclub interiors) inspired us to reach for a sassy playfulness, knowing that the energy of these photographs would light up (quite literally) the dance floor in the club.”

When asked how he likes the installation, Horan replies: “I’ve never seen my work printed at this scale on a back-lit glass medium before. It’s so unique, and exciting to see my work displayed in such a dramatic atmosphere.”

If Horan’s installations seem more like art pieces rather than nightclub murals, it’s not by accident. Horan and Kim of AK DesignNETWORK have a plan to fold the photography into a traveling exhibition across the nation—another reason why Kim’s choice of photographer was anything but arbitrary.

Reports of the nightclub’s opening weekend, and more specifically, Horan’s photographs, have been rave, including one that states that “the Gallery nightclub boasts some of the most visually stunning photography ever displayed in an entertainment venue.” Horan’s images are permanently installed at Gallery in Las Vegas, and can also be viewed on the Christian Horan Photography website: http://bit.ly/eQSF0T.

In addition to the creative duo of Horan and Kim, the photo shoot’s crew included: wardrobe styling and props by Michael Holdaway; makeup artist Barbara Guillaume, hair stylist Gaelle Seccretin; models Diana and Paloma of Industry Models, and Nicole and Zdenka.
