Semana Santa vacation in Costa Rica: Away from the madness

Getting away from beach madness for the week.

May 9, 2011 - PRLog -- I like to go against the flow.  While everyone else in Costa Rica seems to be on vacation at the beach, I have been hiding out in the quiet little mountain town of Atenas.  Atenas boasts the best climate in the world and after 4 nights of sleeping in fresh mountain air I would tend to agree with them.   The average temperature is 74F/23C and ranges from 65F/18C at night to 80F/27C during the day most of the time, sometimes up to 85F/30C.

I have had the peace to get a lot of work done while I have been here, greatly due to the quiet surroundings and the beautiful view from my temporary office window.  It is amazing how a change of scenery can rejuvenate you and get the creative juices flowing after feeling stuck for sometime.  Other than work, the days have consisted of pleasant walks around the small, charming town and grabbing the occasional meal at a couple of great little local restaurants.  My favorite, Don Yayos, is within walking distance and is a typical Costa Rican bar and restaurant.  Nothing fancy, just good solid food, cold beer and a non-touristy atmosphere.

It will definitely take a day or two to adjust back to the beach.  But as nice as this week has been, you get an appreciation of home by taking a little time away.  Even though I consider the phrase overdone at times, I must definitely say that I feel very Pura Vida!
