Ever Heard of Electro-Reggae? Calibe Takes an Untapped Genre to New Heights

BlackOut Movement’s Electro-Reggae artist Calibe premiered 2 music videos on Saturday, May 7, 2011 for her high energy singles “Hey DJ” and “Like a Star”. The songs were produced by members of the new crop of DJs-cum-producers Damion Daniel in Miami, and Bassanova and Moradzo in Holland, respectively. Both videos world premiered online at www.Carivibez.tv and are currently available on youtube.

“Hey DJ” recorded in collaboration with Damion Daniel (The Masked Man) is a club banger with off the wall sounds, hard hitting Caribbean drums and soaring vocals, all presented in a format that will keep any dance floor packed with partiers. The video was filmed by Miami director James Pierre of JNR Productions. Laced with scenes inside the chic V-Midtown Lounge and framed by the Miami skyline at night, this homage to DJs is sure to be a hit with electronic and open-format turntable masters. “Like a Star” features the production talents of Dutch duo Bassanova and Moradzo. They linked with Calibe through a mutual connection at the Walboomers Music label which publishes and distributes the record. With a more Euro-Pop appeal, this record is fun and light hearted, as is the comedic video which shows both the vocalist's and producers’ misadventures after drinking ‘Irie Electro Tonic’, which turns them all from regular folks into superstars... at least in their own minds. Calibe, the Jamaican-born, Miami-based songstress sports blonde and pink dreadlocks and sings with a wide range and powerful vocals. Her repertoire, though spanning over a decade of collaborations with artists like Beenie Man and Kevin Lyttle, and producers like Sly and Robbie and Kwame Holland, has now taken the unusual twist toward a fusion of her native reggae, with dance music. Under the guidance of super-producer Winston “BlackOut” Thomas, the fusion has been accomplished seamlessly.

Combining Calibe’s artistry and BlackOut’s production talents with the flavors of a cross section of producers is creating a product that has members of the media and the listening public taking note of the under-tapped market of Electronic Reggae music.
