“My mom was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer at a young age and right after we relocated to Louisiana. I was 13 years old at the time and really didn’t have anyone to talk to that could understand my fears,” says Brown. “This program will be a series of fun events with an underlying serious message. Early detection is the key to long-term survival.” Brown learned to express her feelings surrounding her mom’s cancer journey through dance and will perform a modern interpretative dance in the competition. She has studied dance at the world renowned Planet Funk Dance Academy in Houston and is currently a ballet and jazz student at Christian Dance Center in Shreveport. She won the ArkLaTex “So you think you can dance contest” sponsored by Fox Television and was the 2010 State PTSA winner in Dance Choreography. Additionally, she has been recognized for her breast cancer awareness nationally and has participated and raised monies for Sisters Network, American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Brown recently completed a two-year term on the Army Reserve Teen Panel where she completed service projects across the U.S. and represented military youth across the globe. She was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2011 from President Barack Obama having volunteered 175 hours the prior year. She is the daughter of Sergeant First Class Philip Tatum and Crystal Brown-Tatum. # # # Crystal Clear Communications is a full service public relations firm and advertising agency located in Shreveport, Louisiana.
