June 15, 2011 - PRLog -- At a time when schools are reducing art programs due to budget cuts and hurting for basic art supplies, the San Dieguito Art Guild, a non profit organization, generously donated $1000 to Sunset High School's art department.

Sunset High art teacher, Michelle Horsley, told the guild that this gift allows the students to participate in outside art shows and gain the experience they could not normally have.  Last year's donation from SDAG, for example, allowed for student participation in Arts Alive and for Fallbrook Art Show entries by paying for canvas and paints that the school
does not provide.

She mentioned that she had some very talented students and since there are only 8 teachers in the entire school, crossing over on subjects is hard. The added art projects keep the students' interest and the students try very hard to communicate through art. She was very appreciative of the gift and the students were very excited to be considered for the donation.

San Dieguito Art Guild's mission is to promote the appreciation and understanding of the visual arts for its members and for the community of the San Dieguito Area. The Guild was organized in 1965 by a group of twelve enthusiastic artists who lived in the San Dieguito area. Their purpose was to promote greater understanding and appreciation of the fine arts. After 46 years, the San Dieguito Art Guild has evolved into a non-profit 501(c) 4
organization that operates a gallery and offers workshops for the community.

The Guild is made up of over 200 talented local artists who show and sell their work at the Off Track Gallery, located in the Lumberyard Shopping Center on Highway 101, downtown Encinitas. The Off Track Gallery is open daily from 10am to 6pm and until 8pm in the summer months on Friday and Saturday. The gallery features the artwork  of the guild's artists, including photography, digital artwork, jewelry, glass, mosaics, ceramics, gourds, baskets and traditional wall art in oil, pastels, acrylics and mixed media.

The San Dieguito Art Guild sponsors an annual Mother's Day Artists' Studio and Garden Tour of  North San Diego County homes. Proceeds from that tour were used to provide the $1000 gift to Sunset High.
