June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- In May, Crystal Clear Publications and Author Crystal L. Bass launched “Precious Gems,” a campaign to encourage healthy communication between parents and children, reduce the rate of abuse and molestation of children, and promote high self-esteem and self-worth of young girls.

As a part of the  Precious Gems campaign, Crystal Clear Publications initiated the Precious Gems Twitter chat that takes place each Tuesday on Twitter at 8pm EST. Last week’s topic was “Teachers + Social Workers and how they Recognize Signs of Child Abuse.” Featured experts included Social Worker Shannah Edmonds, Educator Louis Mcilwain, Society 4 Girls, and Third-grade Teacher Chauna Watson.

The hour-long chat included insight about the crucial role that educators and social workers have when it comes to preventing child abuse, signs of child abuse, child abuse awareness in the media, and how to handle experiences with abused children.

Each of the participants offered good feedback on the topics:
“Some kids will offer subtle hints that they are being abused, we as educators have to pay attention.” –Louis McIlwain, Educator

“Random abnormal behavior is definitely a sign of child abuse.” –Chauna Watson, Educator

“Some children are too embarrassed to tell or to seek help.” –Twitter User

“I think the media can do way more to bring attention to this topic. When they do address it, it may be too late for some children.” -Shannah Edmonds, Social Worker

This week’s Precious Gems chat will focus on parenting and the importance of healthy parent-child relationships and what steps can be taken to better these relationships and how to prevent children from being abused or molested by adults in their lives.

Anyone can join the Precious Gems Twitter discussion each Tuesday from 8 to 9 p.m. by using the #PreciousGems hash tag or by following @CrystalClearPub  or @ThinkBrownINK on Twitter. For more information on the Precious Gems Campaign, please contact raevyn@thinkbrownink.com.
