Follow on Google News | Time to nominate Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire’s sporting heroesThe nomination process for awards to be presented at the region’s largest celebration of professional and amateur sport is now open.
The seventh annual awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Court Hotel, on Tamworth Road, on Thursday, November 3. Coventry University organises the event, with support from regional partners, to celebrate those across Coventry, Warwickshire or Solihull who have made a tremendous contribution to sport at any level or achieved outstanding sporting success. Tom Shakespeare, sports development officer at Coventry University, said this year’s awards promised to produce some outstanding nominees. “As we head towards London 2012 the attention and focus given to sport at all levels is higher than ever,” he said. “We have a number of sportsmen and women across the region whom have already achieved tremendous success and harbour very realistic ambitions of competing at London 2012 – and we expect them to feature in the nomination process. “Of course these awards are also about recognising success and achievements at grass roots level. “As we have seen over the past six years, there are countless numbers of worthy individuals who are the lifeblood of amateur and community sport – so we want to hear their stories so they can be given the recognition they deserve.” A number of sponsorship opportunities are available including the headline sponsor and the chance to support the individual award categories. The event is managed by a representative group of six key partner organisations led by Coventry University and including BBC Coventry and Warwickshire, CSW Sport, Coventry City Council, Coventry PE and School Sport Partnership and Nuneaton and Bedworth Leisure Trust. The nomination window closes on August 7, 2011. For a full list of categories and details of how to nominate please visit www.cswsportsawards.com.
