Follow on Google News | Coventry dance crew have the talent for Chinese stage – but not the ticketsA dance group from Coventry who appeared on the hit TV show Britain’s Got Talent are looking for a boost up onto the international stage.
The group, which has formed a creative partnership with leading Coventry design agency The Jade Studio, has now been offered the chance to become the first UK dance crew to perform at the Shanghai Tourism Festival after Chinese officials came across video footage of them on the internet. Organisers of the annual event, which draws around 400,000 people to its opening ceremony alone, are covering Kombat Breakers’ insurance, accommodation and sightseeing costs – but not their flights. The crew, fronted by 30-year-old Leeroy Bailey, is now hoping to raise the money for their flights themselves to ensure they don’t miss their cue for this once in a lifetime opportunity. “All the guys have been so excited ever since the news came through that we had been invited to perform at the Shanghai Tourism Festival,” said Leeroy. “We have been looking at videos online and the atmosphere looks incredible. “We were actually invited to perform at a similar festival the following week in Beijing but we had to decline as we didn’t want to risk letting them both down. “Ideally we would like to take up to 30 members of the crew over there but the minimum number we need to perform is 20. “All in all we are looking at around £10,000 by mid-July to cover all our flights. We are all really busy at the moment, working on a couple of TV shows but we are hoping to organise a big fundraising event. “Everybody would be devastated if we couldn’t go but particularly the younger guys, who are only about 10, would be so disappointed and I just don’t want to have to tell them we can’t go.” Jason Dickens, managing director of Coventry design agency The Jade Studio which is based at Electric Wharf in the city, was alerted to the Kombat Breakers’ cause after meeting them at an event at the Ricoh Arena – and has lent them his personal and professional support. He said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Leeroy and the guys and it would be a real shame if they weren’t able to take advantage of it. “You can’t help but admire these guys, what they do and how hard they work. “We have put together some flyers and posters to publicise their fundraising effort and are looking to help out in any way we can really.” If you can help the Kombat Breakers’ fundraising effort visit www.kombatbreakers.co.uk or email Leeroy directly at leeroybboy@yahoo.com END Media enquiries: Joe Hewison Advent Communications 2 Edison Building Electric Wharf Sandy Lane Coventry CV1 4JA Tel: 024 7663 3636 http://www.advent- # # # Advent Communications is a well-established public relations consultancy based in Coventry.
