Jabbakam – The Next Phase in Social Networking
Jabbakam Crowdsources Home and Community Safety

28th June 2011 - Monitoring the items people care about the most is set to become far easier thanks to Jabbakam, the  social network for personal and community safety. Jabbakam is breaking new ground by combining the simplicity of plug and play IP cameras (i.e internet) with social networking – think ‘You Tube’ meets Facebook. The Jabbakam service is low cost and offers its members – whether they are family, friends, neighbours or businesses – the ability to build online networks of cameras, enabling them to share access to real-time monitoring of the things they have a mutual  interest in, or value the most wherever they are.

Jabbakam is a natural progression from Neighbourhood Watch, When logged into Jabbakam, users can see footage from their IP cameras from anywhere in the world - Jabbakam users can view recorded footage remotely via their web browser, laptop, smartphone or PDA. Or they can set their cameras to alert them, receiving emails or text messages when there is any unexpected activity in front of their cameras.
Simplicity is a key feature of Jabbakam, and getting it up and running is easy even for the most technically challenged. Once you receive your camera in the post, take it out of the box and attach the camera to your router and a power source.  Point the camera at a particular place, login to Jabbakam.com and you're up and running. Once you’ve bought the camera (£59.95), the basic package is £5.95 a month to store images online for up to 14 days.
Jabbakam is the brain child of James Wickes. The name is derived from the idea of making the cameras talk to their owners across the Internet. The concept came to him after he was woken up at 4am one morning to find four men about to break into his house. “I looked out of the window and there were four guys there looking very dodgy. I rang the police and they asked me whether these guys were trying to break in. When I said not yet, the operator said to ring back if they did, I was not only pretty shocked by that, but I also felt very vulnerable at that point”

Following the incident James spent hours researching the surveillance and CCTV market, found it over priced and over technical for the average home owner, so got together a team to design a system which anyone could set up and use. Jabbakam heralds a new approach to personal and community security called CMTV – Community Monitored Television.
Using your own cameras you can keep watch over the things that are important to you, or by linking them with neighbour’s cameras, neighbourhood watch networks can be built. Private networks can be created by people who share the same interests, and public camera networks can be created that can be accessed by anyone. Access to camera footage is granted by the network owner. Jabbakam Networks can be public, private or completely hidden from view.
The team at Jabbakam believe that everyone has the right to be safe and feel safe in their communities and are committed to creating and supporting safer and stronger neighbourhoods - where we live, work and play - in which we all take responsibility for our actions and how they affect others.  Jabbakam abhors the Big Brother state and aims to give the responsibility for safety back to the people - so communities themselves are making their environments safer.
About Jabbakam
Founded in 2010, Jabbakam is a unique system for the remote management and networking of IP cameras. A Jabbakam network can be formed by two or more users monitoring a single camera, or an international community sharing footage across the globe. Jabbakam networks enable groups of people with a shared interest to view video footage recorded on their cameras online as and when they want.

Customers span individual home users, to larger organisations wanting to harness the significant cost savings and ease of use and deployment that comes from a cloud-based solution. The Jabbakam service also features a mobile client and a downloadable iPhone app, which provides access to monitoring parameters and camera footage from anywhere in the world.  Please visit www.jabbakam.com for further information and a free trial of the service.
