The Cameroon Professional Society (CPS) Announces the 2011 Scholars Program Recipients

June 30, 2011 - PRLog -- “The CPS Scholars Program is a fundamental component of our goal of nurturing pragmatic and visionary leaders of tomorrow who are well equipped to take up challenging issues facing their communities, their country and the world,” said Dr. Denis A. Foretia, President of the CPS. “The CPS received many exceptional submissions and we are extremely proud of the incredible work that our recipients have done and continue to do in making sure that we leave this world in a slightly better shape than when we joined it.”

In 2010, the CPS established the CPS Scholars Program to recognize the outstanding work being done by high school students of Cameroonian descent in the academic, community service, athletic and leadership arena. It seeks to nurture a new generation of Cameroonian leaders in business, law, education, health care, engineering, public service among a wide variety of sectors.

CPS Scholarships are awarded competitively on the basis of academic achievement, community service, demonstrated leadership and a commitment to support other young scholars in the future. Each scholar is teamed up with a CPS Fellow or associate in the particular area of interest, who serves as a mentor for the duration of the program.

High school students of Cameroonian descent anywhere in the United States are eligible to apply. This year’s award ceremony will be held during the 2011 CPS Distinguished Annual Congress on July 30, 2011 at the Hilton Washington D.C North Hotel (http://congress.cpsociety.org/). Each scholar is awarded $500 to be used for academic expenses at any college or university of their choice. All award recipients participate in a weekend Leadership Development session in Washington D.C organized by the CPS. Travel, accommodation and lodging are at the expense of the CPS. During the Leadership Development session, students will interact closely with leading Cameroonian professionals, entrepreneurs, experts and scientists from various fields. Scholars will learn the fundamentals of leadership and participate in various activities designed to cultivate trust and respect in the classroom, at home and at the workplace.
