July 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Resident's property is not all that is being stolen by Pompano Beach Florida officials. Even the City's new motto was plagiarized from another city in Florida's panhandle. 'Florida's Warmest Welcome' is used in tourism campaigns to describe to Pensacola and appears on numerous Pensacola official websites, brochures, and promotional materials, but this did not stop the Pompano Beach Commission from approving the phrase's use as its own official tagline.

With mounting pressure from what has been referred to as "Pompano Beach CRA Gate" and its exposure of the illegal takings of non-blighted properties by the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, a new public relations effort was commissioned to spruce up the city and redevelopment agency's image to pave the way for future development of the stolen lands. Wilesmith Advertising/Design was hired to rebrand the City and Community Redevelopment Agency and was awarded a contract for $75,000 to do so. Margaret Wilesmith, founder and president of Wisemith Advertising/Design is quoted in the company's own press release saying, "The purpose behind the initiative is to give Pompano Beach an identifiable and differentiating image that can add value by promoting tourism, attracting commercial enterprise and building community pride." The result? Wilesmith pitched a new logo with the "Florida's Warmest Welcome" tagline that was already in use in Pensacola. Now that's a warm idea for differentiating and building community pride! And, of course, ironically, the Wilesmith's Advertising/Design company's own tagline is "It's the thinking that makes us different."

Pompano Beach Commissioners knew the slogan was already used in Pensacola, and voted to approve the plagiarism anyway. Kim Briesemeister, Co-Exective Director of the Pompano Beach CRA that really needed the branding boost was quoted in the Florida Sun-Sentinel saying it would be a "mission impossible" to think up a solely original motto. The CRA may feel it is a mission impossible to act legally and legitimately in all cases, considering the agency itself was found to not have the legal right to exist in a Florida court, and many of its members and advisory agency members have been brought up on criminal charges or ethics violations.

Now the Pompano Beach Commission is attempting to have its new brand trademarked without so much as an apology to Pensacola. This is a typical move say residents, whereby the city will use endless maneuvers to get what it wants at any cost. City Attorney Gordon B. Linn was assigned the trademarking task which has been initiated for 'Florida's Warmest Welcome' and 'South Florida's Warmest Welcome'.
