Summer at the Ukrainian National Museum offers art enthusiasts of all ages an enriching exhibit of two remarkable Ukrainian artists. “The Artwork of Oleksa Kovalenko & Walter Monastyretsky” Oleksa Kovalenko The ethereal paintings by Oleksa Kovalenko transport you back in time to explore the rich history of Ukraine. Kovalenko draws his inspiration from the wellspring of Ukrainian customs and traditions. The artist as philosopher seeks to show Ukrainian culture through the lens of heritage and folklore. His oil paintings are beautiful and mysterious, and will transfer you to his native country of Ukraine. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1946, Kovalenko completed his artistic studies at the esteemed Kyiv State Academy of Sciences 1982. Oleksa Kovalenko has exhibited widely in both Ukraine and the United States and has works in private collections around the world, including Japan, Germany, Canada, Great Britain, Spain and Brazil. Walter Monastyretsky A classically trained professional artist, Walter Monastyretsky’ Before immigrating to the United States in 1998 Monastyretsky became well known throughout Eastern Europe exhibiting his works since 1981. Since moving to the United States, his works have become part of many prestigious private collections in over twenty countries and eleven museums. His landscape entitled “Lincoln Park” was presented to Mayor Richard Daley in August 2009. Monastyretsky has also participated in the exhibits of the Plein Air painters of Chicago.
