Follow on Google News | Top 5 Sitges restaurants in summer 2011I recommend you spend some days in Sitges, near Barcelona. This is a Spanish coastal town on the Costa del Garraf which has become very popular among tourists, specially among the gay audience. However, it is not only a gay destination.
By: Harriet Freeman * Maricel: this restaurant in Sitges asks their customers to dress up. It is located at the seafront at the foot of the church of Santa Tecla. You can have superb food at a high price on a large terrace looking onto the sea and the church. The interior of the restaurant is old-fashioned and has no nice ambiance. * La Caleta: if you go to Balmins beach, you must enter this restaurant in Sitges. Have a cocktail while waiting for your table at the lounge. Taste the paella and the fresh fish dishes. The tapas of calamari rings and patatas bravas are very good and you can accompany your meal with a bottle of white wine in a relaxed ambiance. * Santa Maria: this sidewalk cafe in Sitges is large and has a wide choice of seafood dishes in great portions. Enjoy the wonderful views from the terrace of the restaurant. It's a quite funny restaurant in Sitges because waiters are very competitive and will try to seat you in their section. Service is not excellent but the atmosphere of the restaurant and it's marvellous food make the place a good choice. * Picnic: this cafe/restaurant in Sitges is located on the promenade across the road from the Hotel Calipolis. It is quite expensive but the quality is excellent, so you won't waste your money. Take a seat on the terrace looking onto the beach and have some delicious Catalan food at lunchtime. If you're not too hungry or it isn't lunchtime yet, you can have a quick snack in the cafeteria, as well. This popular restaurant in Sitges gets customers who are both locals and tourists. It's great location at the beach helps it have a lot of guests, so if you're going to have lunch, I advise you better make a reservation or go very early. * La Fragata: this restaurant near Maricel has a lot in common with that restaurant. It is also a must to dress up for having dinner in this wonderful restaurant. You can have pricey, modern Catalan food which is worth the money, as well as having great views of the church and the sea. So far, Maricel and La Fragata seem exactly the same. Here comes one of their differences: * La Caleta: if you go to Balmins beach, you must enter this restaurant in Sitges. Have a cocktail while waiting for your table at the lounge. Taste the paella and the fresh fish dishes. The tapas of calamari rings and patatas bravas are very good and you can accompany your meal with a bottle of white wine in a relaxed ambiance.
