By: WORKHOUSE This September, 2011, champion fingerpicker Foster McGinty issues his latest release Chateau Fiasco; a cinematic journey of holy roller soul, needly guitars, and heart-on-sleeve funk that comes together to form his run-and-gun best. Once again, Foster’s defiantly unslick pot stirring contributes fresh, inventive and timeless dimensions to our current spit-and-polish musical landscape. Like a roughed-up Ray Davies, Foster McGinty’s music possess unhinged, mighty riffs spotlighted by jagged swagger showmanship. Self-assured with plenty of bite, his Delta hellhound milky yowl utilizes Drag City tempos with general abandon as big as Texas. It’s the kind of noodling that smacks of warped black wax raising more than just temperatures. McGinty’s harmonic, throttling double time grooves are gutsy, driven sounds that refuse to be categorized. An insane mix tape inspiring musical anthems and genre rebirths, Foster’s blood runs hot as he croons over heartbreak, success and raising yourself beyond. Not just stylistic lip service, but authentic musical expression forged by personal experience, range, cunning vocals and genuine musical gifts showcase his chops and account for his broad appeal. A potent live band that slams back and forth between an ever-unfolding musical mission, Foster serves the listener with a triple dose of fearless, golden-era electric. It's easy to feel nostalgia about rock now that it’s a bankrupt phenomenon. That we know everything there is to know about the past and find that there is nothing left to discover is the hallmark of familiar fallen guitar God’s. Enter McGinty’s high-voltage, flamboyant virtuosity as a sound thrower. Born in Memphis, he has taken the instrument that defines rock & roll and made it his own. Developing a pioneering, quirky, original style that echoes Sun Studios: snarling, sinewy, soulful, wailing, visceral, uncompromising, and reckless. More than anything, hard driving rock & roll is propelled by the six string. McGinty’s raw modern balladry, the kind that washes over you like cool firewater, offers a hint of distortion that quickly turns back the clock. A classic production, it’s as if the microphone can't cope with the sheer force of his funky, gritty but danceable sound. McGinty's first full length release, Peach Red (2009), brought forth the psychedelic musings that helped define the late 60's making full use of classic guitar fuzz whiteand wha-wha. The inspiration for his critically acclaimed debut was extracted from an era when liquid images oozed from behind concert stages and guitar God's ruled the earth. Peach Red is a deeply satisfying listen and persuaded critics to hearken Foster's debut as the "nostalgic trip of year". For McGinty the flashback was intentional stating, "Peach Red was my first release and I wanted those musical influences and love of the guitar to be known. At the same time I wanted to pay tribute to the artists that got me into music in the first place. I had to get that off my chest--I want listeners to know where I am coming from and believe that my evolution will be more exciting because of it." McGinty's sophomore effort, Chateau Fiasco (September 2011), is all about looking forward. The eleven songs that make up the album represent a buoyance of swing with top-volume dramatic distortion built on the shoulders of sly raconteurs. Still carrying the roots of rock and roll, the record drips with thought provoking lyrics while unfolding jangily pop precision. Producer, Mike Judeh, finds a perfect way to blend Foster's lost art of melody with a thoroughly modern sound. The band of brother that make up McGinty’s support includes Antar Goodwin on Bass, Dylan Wissing on Drums, and Matt Wilcox on Keys. A special Chateau Fiasco limited edition run of 100 CDs are now available. Each edition package includes a signed and numbered CD, a display case to highlight the signed CD, an 8 1/2” x 11” print of the Jesse Kuhn album cover art, and a certificate of authenticity.
