This year’s Sidewalk Sale continues a string of excitement and good news for the District. Last month, the BID received 2010 sales tax collection data from the City of Denver. Cherry Creek North’s sales tax increase of 16 percent over the previous year more than doubled the surrounding areas. The District’s totals for 2010 eclipsed both 2009 and 2008 figures and nearly equaled its pre-recession 2007 levels.

The BID’s self-funded $18.5 million streetscape project (“The New North”) was celebrated on June 25th when Cherry Creek North hosted a grand opening event on the renovated Fillmore Plaza. An estimated 6,000 people attended this free festival, which featured live musical performances from Flash Cadillac, Lannie Garrett and the Gypsy Swing Revue and others. “The New North” project includes new landscaping, lighting, better identity and wayfinding signage, 20 new Art and Garden spaces and upgraded infrastructure. It is the first major renovation to the area since 1989. The design and construction costs were paid for by the BID. No City funds were used for the project.

Over the July 4th weekend, Cherry Creek North hosted the 21st Annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival which drew hundreds of thousands of people into the District for this popular event. The BID was also honored to receive the 2011 Distinguished Patron Award by the Festival, for its role as host over the last two decades.
