July 25, 2011 - PRLog -- A headline for an article in Vegas Seven's June 23 issue proclaimed, "In four short months, theatre7 (1406 South 3rd Street, Las Vegas, NV 89104 in the arts district) has given Vegas independent cinema a home." That it has and so much more, as can be seen with the venue's remaining programing for July and its upcoming August schedule.

The beginning of an acting class on Monday, podcast broadcasts on Tuesday, a Wednesday night talk show and a two-day film festival dedicated to short horror films directed by women closes out theatre7's final week of July events.

August brings even more fun with super heroes, a night of music and comedy, a free zombie film, a what not to do film seminar, and a PollyGrind.com double feature.

"The great thing about theatre7 is there is no set format to what we do," programmer Chad Clinton Freeman said. "One of my heroes is Bruce Lee and he had a motto he lived by that was 'Using no way as way. Having no limitation as limitation.' And in many ways that's our motto. We keep an open mind and offer a venue for artists that have something to say, show or share and we try to present it in a fun way."

Christopher Chandler's Acting for the Camera begins July 25 and will run for five weeks. Upon completion of the course, all actors will receive theatre7 certification and placement of their headshot on the 'Wall of Fame,' which is utilized by local working filmmakers.

John Donovan and Patty Fantasia began broadcasting their many podcast shows from theatre7 in early June on each and every Tuesday. Some of the many shows include Filmmaker's Notebook, Las Vegas Is Talking, Dice Tomatoes, and La Voce Las Vegas. Their upcoming schedule includes July 26, August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.

The Will Edwards Show had a packed house of 75 people for its July 6 debut. The show, which is part talk show, part game show, part sketch comedy and then some with special guests and musical guests, is slated for July 27, August 10 and 24.

Now in its fifth year as the only event devoted to women filmmakers in the horror genre, the Viscera Film Festival makes its first stop in Las Vegas for two nights of screenings July 29-30. Started by Scream Queen Shannon Lark in 2007, the Vegas leg of the Viscera world tour will feature more than 30 short horror films over two days. Ginnetta Corelli, Gigi Romero, Nikki Wall, Briony Kidd, Mae Catt, and Staci Laye Wilson are among the filmmakers that have shorts screening.

August then kicks off with the first ever First Friday South on Aug. 5. First Friday South is a block party gathering located in front of theatre7 and will feature a road closure  from the corner of 3rd and Imperial to the corner of 3rd and Utah. Gallery curator Darryl Martin will have his art on display inside, along with work from local artists Lynne Jordan and Kelly Haugh. Martin will also be performing a live painting throughout the event, which will start at 7 p.m. and run until midnight.

Live comedy and music take center stage at theatre7 on Aug. 18 when Partners in Crime Productions Presents A Two Point Happy Hour. The show will feature local comedy improv troupe Happy Hour followed by the band Two Point Suspicion, which is led by Mistress Rowynn Eire of the Erotic Heritage Museum.

The Super Hero Saturday Series, Volume 1 will then take place Aug. 20. The night will feature four short films - The Super Zero (Zachary Mami), The Butcher and The Pandress: The First Meating (Sean Jackson), Mind Man Dumb Luck Boy (Thompson Brothers) and The Wrong Taco Shop (Thompson Brothers) - and the Thompson Brothers feature Thor at the Bus Stop.

The indie zombie action film Doomed screens for free on Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. Director Michael Su, a former Power Ranger, mostly known in Las Vegas as a cinematographer, will be on hand afterward to discuss his second feature, which was made in 2007.

Mikey V PCP will then present a feature film and interactive what not to do film seminar with his directorial debut One Step Behind. As the film progresses, Mikey V will stop the film and point out obvious mistakes that are common amongst filmmakers.

August wraps up Aug. 27 with a PollyGrind.com Presents Tons of Fun Double Feature. The night of fun will include John E. Carson's short film Fat Knight and The Bloody Ape, an obscure cult classic feature from Wild Eye Releasing.

"We show films, we display art, we host festivals, we host radio shows, we host talk shows, we host concerts, we host comedians, we've even had a film crew in here recently working on a project," owner Derek Stonebarger said. "Keith Mosher (One Long Day) was recently here, along with Sean Jackson (Bubblegum & Broken Fingers) shooting a pilot for Mosher's web series Certainty at the venue. Basically, the space is available to anyone who would like to showcase their creative passions."

Located near the "Downtown Las Vegas" sign, theatre7 is an artlover's and indie film fan's paradise. Owned, programmed and operated by filmmakers, theatre7 screens independent films, doubles as an art gallery and host live entertainment.
