July 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Screening Set for Createasphere Entertainment Technology Expo on September 20 & 21

Createasphere, a global community builder for the entertainment technology industry, presents the East Coast public debut of the Single Chip Camera Evaluation (SCCE) at this year's Entertainment Technology Expo - the entertainment and media industry's premier conference for previewing ground-breaking technology and learning about the latest trends in content creation. The fourth annual edition of Createasphere's Entertainment Technology Expo NY runs September 20-21 at The New Yorker Hotel. The two-day event includes engaging panel discussions, informative seminars and a full exhibition focused on the intersection of creativity with the latest technology. A vibrant community resource, Createasphere also provides social and networking opportunities for the filmmakers, industry professionals, technical innovators, and experts attending this preeminent event.

The SCCE session takes place Tuesday, September 20, at 1:30 p.m.  Emmy(r) and ASC-winning cinematographer Bob Primes, ASC (My Antonia, Felicity, MDs) will be on hand to present the results of the SCCE, a series of rigorous quantitative and qualitative tests given to major digital cine cameras and 35mm film in early 2011. The cameras were evaluated by a group of experienced cinematographers, engineers and image aficionados recruited by Primes. Wittily, this independent, ad hoc group of experts has been dubbed the Image Quality Geeks.

The SCCE has been well received at NAB, AFI, UCSB, IMAGO, CML, and the Produced By Conference on the West Coast. This will be the first large-scale, public presentation of the tests on the East Coast, which includes a screening and discussion of the findings with Primes.

The cameras in the evaluation included the 12-bit Sony F35, ARRIRAW ALEXA, ARRI 435mm with KODAK VISION3 film, RED ONE M-X, Weisscam HS-2 and Phantom Flex high-speed cameras, Panasonic AF-100, Sony F3, Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 7D and Nikon D7000 DSLRs. For the tests, the group shot 15 live-action clips specifically designed to give filmmakers an apples-to-apples comparison of exposure latitude, low-light sensitivity, color space, flesh tones, shutter artifacts and compression, all tested to meticulous standards. The presentation also includes graphics related to the primary chapters such as "sharpness," "sensitivity," "latitude," "compression," "color," "skin tones" and "motion artifacts."

The SCCE was created and is offered as a work in the public domain, meant to inform and educate the community and industry. There is deep interest in the array of cameras and formats included in the test from content creators across the industry, and the evaluation and tough standards applied in its execution are driving discussions and thought among filmmakers.

Kristin Petrovich Kennedy, President of Createasphere, stated, "The single chip cameras are the most-talked about cinematography tools at the moment, and the evaluation that Bob and his colleagues bring to the industry is highly informative and valuable for content creators. We are looking forward to the screening and conversation of the SCCE at Createasphere in New York, and see the findings as extremely relevant and enlightening for our community.

Createasphere's Entertainment Technology Expo NY 2011 offers a robust schedule of speakers and presentations during the course of the Expo, including the rare opportunity to hear cinematographers ask each other questions about their art and craft sponsored by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC); the chance to take an in-depth look at how breath-taking scenes were captured by the person operating the camera, presented by the Society of Camera Operators; and a New York Production Alliance panel featuring industry leaders.

Createasphere's Entertainment Technology Expo NY also takes place against the backdrop of a whole week of important offerings from Createasphere, including the Digital Asset Management conference, Post Production Master Class (PPMC), The DAMMY Awards, and much more.
