Under the hood, the 2012 Sonata is equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The standard 2.4-liter engine produces 198 horsepower and 200 horsepower in SE models. A 274-hp, 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder is optional.

Even the 2012 base-model Sonata has more standard features than the 2011 model. The 2012 Sonata receives Hyundai’s new Blue Link telematics system as standard equipment.

Also new for 2012 is an HD radio. The HD radio is optional on the SE trim and standard on the Limited trim. Other optional features include panoramic sunroof, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, rearview camera and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

The 2012 Hyundai Sonata receives four out of five possible stars in front crash tests, and five stars in both side and rollover tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Sonata earns five out of five stars in NHTSA’s overall safety rating.

Every trim level comes with six airbags located in the front, front-side and side-curtain positions.

Standard safety features of the new 2012 Sonata include four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, brake assist and tire pressure monitoring system.
