Follow on Google News | ![]() Youth Maritime Training Provider Announces Student Clearing DaysYouth maritime charity UKSA has announced a series of “Clearing Days” for school-leavers who have been unable to secure a place at University, or who are looking for an alternative study and career path.
By: UKSA UKSA is a leading provider of careers training in international maritime, a highly professional growth sector. The Academy’s wide range of intensive study courses include Ocean Graduate, Commercial Yachtmaster and Cadetships, Professional Yacht Engineer and MCA Deck Officer. All are designed to give students the necessary qualifications to succeed in the burgeoning international superyacht and marine industry sectors. UKSA’s Director of Development Daryl Pride said: “Given this year’s record number of University applicants, it’s important that young people know about alternative forms of education that are both more affordable and in the long run can often lead to better paid jobs. “The international maritime sector is exciting and dynamic, with new and emerging markets such as China and India. Professionally trained skippers can make swift progress in their careers and our training courses are geared to ensure UKSA graduates can compete with the best.” UKSA currently has the capacity to enrol around 15 students into its Yachting Cadetship and Commercial Yachtmaster training programmes starting this October. The Yachting Cadetship is a three year guided programme leading to MCA Officer of the Watch 3000gt certification, designed to train aspiring Officers and Captains. By combining academic study and practical paid work experience afloat with the opportunity to undertake a Plymouth University Foundation Degree in Operational Yacht Science, graduates forge long terms careers in a sector with a wealth of job opportunities. “As a training provider we strive to provide the best, most relevant training and mentoring, equipping graduates with a strong foundation of knowledge and realistic understanding of the industry they are entering in to,” says UKSA Cadet and Foundation Degree Co-ordinator Emma Baggett. UKSA trains around 800 people each year for maritime employment, and works with a diverse range of employers, from the superyacht owner Roman Abramovich to the Nielson Holidays and PGL activity holidays to help them into employment. To reserve a place at the one of the UKSA’s “Clearing Days”, school leavers are advised to call +44 (0)1983 203038 or email advice@uksa.org http://www.uksa.org/ Ends For further information: About UKSA UKSA has worked to provide life changing outcomes for young people for 25 years.
