Best Practices for Dealing with Widespread Infections

Aug. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Bellevue, Wash. – Wolters Kluwer Health announced today that Pharmacy OneSource, software-as-a-service provider of Sentri7, an infection prevention surveillance, documentation and reporting application, is hosting a complimentary webinar with Terri Rebmann, PhD, RN, CIC on "Pandemic Preparedness."

Healthcare agencies need evidence-based guidance for pandemic preparedness, such as how to conduct surveillance, implement visitor, staff, and patient screening, and allocate limited resources. Rebmann will present evidence-based best practices identified during past pandemics, including the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. Identification of best practices can be used to develop better pandemic plans for future events. Best practices that will be covered by the webinar include biosurveillance, surge capacity, decontamination, isolation, quarantine, personal protective equipment, anti-infective therapy, vaccination, and crisis standards of care. Instructions will be also be provided on how to asses hospital or healthcare agency plans for pandemic preparedness.

Rebmann will: describe the background/history on the impact of past pandemics and the potential future threat of pandemics, describe emergency management planning issues related to infection prevention during pandemics and describe how to assess hospital or healthcare agency plans for pandemic preparedness.

About the Presenter: Terri Rebmann, PhD, RN, CIC, is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Biosecurity in the Saint Louis University School of Public Health. She is a PhD Nurse researcher with an emphasis in infectious disease emergency preparedness. In addition, she is board certified in Infection Control and Epidemiology. In her current position with the Institute for Biosecurity, she is responsible for teaching classes in the MS and PhD programs and conducting research. Her research areas of focus include healthcare and public health professional disaster preparedness and surge capacity issues. She publishes and lectures on bioterrorism, pandemic planning, emerging infectious diseases, and infection control practices on a national basis.
