Aug. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Knowella Technologies, Inc of Alaska has announced an innovative product for retailers to replace existing paper signage with a 7 inch tablet PC loaded with information which they refer to as a digital salesperson attached to each product. They have used a custom software product which scours the internet for the information each tablet displays, which may include that retailers pricing, inventory, product features and more.  But, where they have the attention of these large retailers is the ability to program these tablets to also capture their competitors pricing which provides them a true lowest price guarantee right at their fingertips.

Knowella Technologies, Inc.  has been working on the concept of digital signage in this type of application for about three years.  There is nothing they have not thought of when it comes to the idea of the "digital salesman" for these products while keeping the costs down to make the application practical to be adopted by large retailers.  After spending some time looking at this product we learned a lot about how the retailers use signage and all the discrepancies that are found in most large department stores.  The biggest problem found in large department stores is the actual paper signage itself.  It is not uncommon for retailers to change a product price two or three times a week for a product depending on their sales circulars that are released.  Each price change requires someone to follow along in each store with those changes and reprint the paper signage to give to that department to be replaced on or before the new sales price date.  At which point, it is printed and handed to the employees of that department to change the day of the sale.  Large retailers that have thousands of stores across the nation and then thousands of products changing prices two or three times a week, gets very expensive quickly.  Knowella has calculated that a large retailers chain of 1000 stores, wastes approximately 190,000 tons of paper each year. That is the equivalent of filling Yankee Stadium three times each year due to paper pricing changes. By using a low cost, low energy tablet in place of the paper signage, over time it will greatly impact the amount of paper waste in landfills.

This is all eliminated with their Knowella kiosk by easily programming the tablet to that manufacturers part number and securely mounting it to the product.  Using either Wifi or Cellular Signal connection to the internet it begins it's work and pulls in that stores web page information first to fill in the blanks such as price, inventory, product colors, sales pricing, description, extended warranty information secondly, can even include delivery information of the product and thirdly, will goes as far as displaying actual delivery dates and times that they are available.  Plus, it gathers another very important area for large retailers to cross sell the accessories and makes a checklist of items the consumer may need in order for the product to work.  For example, I did not know until I met the people at Knowella, that a dishwasher did not include a power cord or water lines when you purchase it. That is extra.  Knowella's Tablet makes sure that the consumer knows exactly what is needed and asks if you would like to purchase those products as well.  The last part of this product that is amazing, is the ability to also have it programmed with competitors information such as pricing and inventory, so a customer never has to leave the store and shop anymore for the exact same product, due to most large retailers of appliance, home electronics, etc price match.

We talked to the president of Knowella Technologies and is very excited for the future of their company.  "We have tried to think of everything that a retailer could want.  We have the tablet, the vendors including cellular partners in place, hardware, software and security 99% completed and are looking at beginning sales by the end of 2011."  She was also pleased to point out that they thought their sales might exceed $300 million their first three years.  Currently they are home based out of Anchorage, Alaska and hope to employ about 20-30 people by the end of 2012 in Alaska and have hopes of having their distribution center in Boulder/Denver Colorado completed by the end of this year, which could employ another 50-60 people in the Rocky Mountain Region.
