WHAT: Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County is gearing up for its annual Day for Kids celebration! Day for Kids is open to the public and will include: ~ A get fit challenge ~ Bounce House and Obstacle Course ~ Spelling Bee and Math Bee ~ Dunking Booth, and Spinning Wheel Game ~ My Museum “Wheelie Mobilee” ~ Tattoo Station, Penny Toss, Craft Table…and more!! WHEN: Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. WHERE: 85 Maryal Drive, Salinas, CA 93906. Behind the Rodeo Grounds! WHY: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, less than one-third of high school youth meet the recommended levels of physical activity. Active play is great for young people and fosters creativity, imagination exploration and helps to develop and master various skills. Through Day for Kids, BGCA is encouraging every American to play a part in ensuring a brighter future for young people by motivating them to lead a healthy lifestyle. With Clubhouses in Seaside and Salinas, BGCMC provides youth between the ages of 6-18 an afterschool safe haven where they are mentored to achieve academic success, acquire healthy lifestyles, and develop good character and citizenship. Over 95% of the total budget comes from generous individuals, corporations and foundations. The Clubs are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. during summer and school breaks, and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. when school is in session.
