Rep. Towns To Host Forum On Juvenile Justice Crisis at CBC Foundation Annual Conference

Sept. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Rep. Edolphus “Ed” Towns (NY-10) will host a forum exploring the juvenile justice system in America at a time when critics say it neither reforms young offenders nor protects the public. Entitled “An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Re-entry Programs,” the forum coincides with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 41st Annual Legislative Conference. U.S. Rep. Towns will bring together experts in the fields of child welfare and criminal justice to explore how the system can best address the psychological, emotional and behavioral needs of at-risk youth while protecting communities. The issue is particularly important to the African-American community, given the disproportionate number of black youth in the criminal justice system.
