Sept. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- On October 5 and 6, 2011 Rainbow PUSH and Citizenship Education Fund will convene the 12th Annual Automotive and Energy Summit at the MGM Grand Detroit Casino Hotel and Conference Center.

The event will feature keynote speakers and panel discussions with noted industry executives and leaders and focus on the changing trends and emerging opportunities within the global automotive industry.

The Global Automotive and Energy Summit is the only conference that addresses the business issues of diversity within the automotive industry and proactively develops solutions to address those issues.

“Today’s auto industry is a far cry from what we reviewed a year ago.  The paradigm that faces the auto industry is the challenge to transform crises to opportunities. With more than half of the 631 minority suppliers facing extinction, over 600,000 workers losing jobs monthly and two million families facing foreclosures, it is truly an uphill battle, said Rev. Jesse Jackson, founder of Rainbow PUSH Coalition and creator of the Automotive & Energy Summit.

"It seems ironic that we are stimulating banks with no connectivity to jobs, manufacturing or reinvestment in America.  As we move forward, we must reconstruct our industrial program and worker trade policy.  We continue to import several billions dollars in cars, yet our exports sales lag pitifully.  It is unfair to American workers for labor agreements to be renegotiated without drastic changes in national trade agreements.  The auto industry is working through a myriad of issues, but they cannot lose focus of the imbalance of trade.

All nations that produce automobiles must compete equally on an even playing field.   In addition, the automotive crisis is having a disproportionate impact on minority auto businesses.  We cannot allow this to happen since minorities not only represent a large segment of our population they consume a large percentage of all vehicles sold.   We must stop the hemorrhaging now, to save all American auto workers and companies,” said Jackson.

The conference will include executive keynote speakers, elected officials panel discussions with industry experts, a focus on green innovation and new technologies and recognition of industry trailblazers and future industry leaders, among other activities.
