Sept. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- This Autumn Heal’s celebrates the brilliance of Scandinavian design with an irresistible mix of contemporary furniture and home accessories. With new designers at Heal’s including Erik Järkil, Anne Black and Cathrine Kullberg to established brands such as Marimekko, Ferm Living and Design House Stockholm; Heal’s style compass is set pointing North this season.

Statement contemporary furniture pieces include the Lamino sheepskin and oak easy chair and footstool made in Sweden by Yngve Ekström, the Knap sofa bed designed by Per Weiss, the Peg chair originally designed by Alex Hellum in 2007 for Heal’s Discovers and made in Norway in oak and ash and the innovative Loll structured bean bag by the Scandinavian design team Gronlund Design. Hay, Bantie, Wik and Wolsoe and Kay Bojesen also provide the best in contemporary Scandinavian accessories. A key highlight for this Autumn are the exclusive furniture ranges Sidde and Arkiv developed by the Heal’s design team and inspired by the mid 20th century Scandinavian furniture which Heal’s was instrumental in introducing to the UK in 1951. Arkiv comprises of a sideboard, storage unit and a strikingly shaped coffee table in solid oak and white laminate. A complimentary design partner, Sidde is a sofa and armchair range with a unique silhouette capturing an essence of a bygone era with its geometric form and succeeding in delivering style and comfort in equal measure.

A selection of antique Scandinavian furniture from the 1950s and 60s chosen by the Heal’s design team to complement the more contemporary Scandinavian pieces will also be available in Autumn. The Fireside easy chair is another new and exclusive piece from the Heal’s design team to look out for this Scandi season with inspiration taken from a Scandinavian chair illustrated in an iconic Heal’s 1950s advertisement by Feeney.

Also taking place at Heal’s during Autumn Winter is the Marimekko pop-up shop. Showcasing during London Design Festival 2011, the pop-up Marimekko store at Heal’s flagship Tottenham Court Road store and online will take place from 17-25th September. Celebrating the iconic Finnish design brands 60th birthday, the centrepiece will be the exclusive limited edition Heal’s Mistral sofa and armchair upholstered in Marimekko fabric. Notes for editors:
Heal’s lead the way by being the first retailer to introduce Scandinavian design to the UK with the 1951 exhibition at the Heal’s Mansard Gallery ‘Scandinavian Design for Living’ featuring furniture and home accessories from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. This new style of living was so well received that by 1959 Heal’s had launched the CONTex collection of imported Scandinavian furniture, which was sold exclusively at Heal’s for many years and included pieces by Verner Panton that have since become iconic. Sixty years later Scandinavian design is still as popular as ever. Good taste allied to expert craftsmanship will always have a place in the home.

Heal's is the home of modern, designer and contemporary furniture, home accessories, designer lighting, garden, kitchen equipment, dining, bedroom and bathroom accessories and gifts. Beginning as a bed and mattress making firm in 1810, Heal's has been designing and making high quality furniture ever since. We have a tradition of working with the most talented designers, craftsmen and brands of the day to make furniture that is comfortable, beautiful and affordable.
